What is Pivot?

Pivot is a place for men into men.

Pivot is a community space for men into men, and was formerly known as the Men’s Wellness Center. In response to ever changing times, the Men’s Wellness Center realized as it approached its fourth anniversary that it was time for a change. Hence the birth of Pivot.

With help from RAIN Agency, the new branding highlights the focus of the space as central to a shift in thinking about sexual health; a place central to community, both physically and metaphorically; and a space that serves to bring about change.

So Pivot is a community space? Big deal, so is a living room. What do we do that’s so special?

Pivot is a space dedicated to the physical, personal, and social health of gay/bi/trans and all men into men. We offer a variety of programming that is both social and educational in nature, a drop in space (that’s right, sip our coffee and use our WiFi for free, we don’t mind), and STD/HIV testing.

VISION
A continual progression in the overall health and wellness of all men into men.

MISSION
To create a space where community members come together and build a stronger, healthier community free of stigma and shame.

CORE VALUES

EMPOWERMENT
We believe that building a strong community requires the active participation and leadership of its members. Pivot seeks to offer opportunities for individuals to support their own health and wellness, and actively engage with the larger community.

EQUITY
We value equity of access as a crucial component for individuals making concrete change for themselves and their community. We believe men into men have the right to access information and resources that are relevant, up to date, culturally competent and affirming.

COMMUNITY
We value a community based upon mutual respect and dignity. By actively exploring the differences in our experiences such as those based on race, culture, gender identity, age, HIV status or socioeconomics, we can leverage our commonalities and strengths to affect broader change and create a more just community.

SEXUALITY
We believe individuals have a right to satisfying sex lives free from guilt and shame. Recognizing the history of stigma and isolation faced by men into men and the resulting health disparities, we seek to create a space where sexuality and sexual expression is viewed as a healthy, natural and constantly evolving part of life.
