A support group for those who struggle with their Faith & Sexuality

Whether out or closeted, many LGBTQ people of faith (or former people of faith) can carry unique burdens around with them. Not only do many religions seem to condemn them, but a large number also begin to condemn themselves. Many are excluded from their religion and even become enemies of their faith. Those that have found a positive relationship with religion have often gone through difficult journeys to get there.

You are not alone.
Discussion and sharing can help bring clarity and healing.

A community organized support group meets at Pivot on the last Wednesday of each month from 6:00-8:00pm.

If you would like to join us, please send an email to the email address below briefly stating your interest in the group. The group is open to all and will be in a discussion format. (Please note: Support does not replace therapy or individual counseling, and should not be mistaken for those paths.)

About the facilitator: Jim Hutcherson will facilitate the support group. A refugee from fundamentalism, Hutcherson has been a teacher for thirty-three years and is the author of the book Arguing with God: Fundamentalist Christianity versus the Gays.

Can you feel it? The tide is turning. Public opinion on same sex-marriage is moving in our direction. Recently, a national poll showed that a majority of Americans now support the freedom to marry.

But in order to win marriage at the ballot here in Oregon, we need to win over 100,000 people who are still on the fence.

Join us for a discussion about how the marriage movement is continuing to build in Oregon, and how you can get involved with marriage equality in 2012.

Basic Rights Oregon has launched a major statewide educational advertising campaign. Over the next few weeks, we will share our values – love, commitment and protecting your family – with those who are on the fence about the freedom to marry. Check out the commercial broadcasting all over Oregon.

Pivot is a place for men into men.

Pivot is a community space for men into men, and was formerly known as the Men’s Wellness Center. In response to ever changing times, the Men’s Wellness Center realized as it approached its fourth anniversary that it was time for a change. Hence, the birth of Pivot.

With help from RAIN Agency, the new branding highlights the focus of the space as central to a shift in thinking about sexual health, a place central to community, both physically and metaphorically, and a space that serves to bring about change.

So Pivot is a community space? Big deal, so is a living room. What do we do that’s so special?

Pivot is a space dedicated to the physical, personal, and social health of gay/bi/trans and all men into men. We offer a variety of programming that is both social and educational in nature, a drop in space (that’s right, sip our coffee and use our WiFi for free, we don’t mind), and STD/HIV testing.
